Criminal Cases in the Morgan County Courts
Morgan County criminal court cases are divided by charge class. The Utah District Court in the Second Judicial District hears every felony and class A misdemeanor. Morgan County Justice Court handles most class B and class C misdemeanors, infractions, traffic citations, and county ordinance cases. The split matters at the first step because a search or copy request sent to the wrong Morgan County court may produce no useful result. There is no separate municipal-court database for Morgan city.
Utah Courts, not the elected Morgan County Clerk/Auditor, keeps the judicial case files. Court staff enter public case data into CORIS, the statewide court information system. That data then becomes available through Utah Courts Xchange. The court file begins when the prosecutor files a complaint or information. It tracks hearings, pleas, motions, orders, judgment, and sentence. By contrast, the sheriff or another arresting agency keeps the officer's report, and an out-of-county receiving jail keeps the booking file.
Morgan County Court Levels
The charge shown on a booking record may not identify the final court route. Prosecutors can change or decline an allegation after reviewing the officer's report. Use the filed charge in the Morgan County docket to confirm venue. A felony or class A misdemeanor points to the Second District Court. Most lower misdemeanors and infractions point to Morgan County Justice Court.

How to Search Case Records
Utah Courts Xchange is the main remote index for public Morgan County criminal case records. An exact case number is the best key. A party-name search can also work, but common names need careful review of the court and case type. Xchange publishes data after court staff enter it into CORIS, not at the time of an arrest. Older converted justice-court cases can contain less detail.
- Open Xchange and choose a one-time guest session or an account. Review the current fee and session terms before funding access.
- Search by exact case number when possible. Otherwise, use the party-name field and consult Utah Courts search tips and party codes.
- Confirm that the location is Morgan County and that the result is in District or Justice Court, as expected for the charge class.
- Read each charge and docket entry. Check the complaint or information, plea, judgment, and sentence instead of treating a closed status as a conviction.
- Purchase an available public district document or send a Request for Court Record to the correct court when the needed item is not online.

Morgan County Court Xchange Costs
The official Xchange information page explains its public district- and justice-court coverage. One-time users fund an initial $10 credit. Official materials captured during research did not agree on every per-search amount, so the live registration screen controls at the time of use. Monthly access has a $25 setup fee and costs $40 per month, including 500 searches. Public district-court documents cost $1 when available.
The Xchange registration screen shows the account choices and current pricing terms. Its guest session lasts 24 hours, but an idle session can end after 30 minutes. Plan the Morgan County case search before clicking, since a search action can use paid credit.
The official Xchange scope is shown in the source image below.
The screen helps distinguish a statewide court summary from a sheriff report or BCI rap sheet.
The registration choices are also documented in the source image below.
Review that live screen before paying because search pricing has changed across official court materials.
What the Case File Shows
A Morgan County court file answers what prosecutors filed and what the judge did. It does not prove what appears in a deputy's complete incident narrative or a receiving jail's intake packet. Read the case at charge level. One count can be dismissed while another ends in a plea or trial judgment, so a single label for the whole case may conceal a mixed result.
| Case Number & Court | The unique case identifier, Morgan court location, case type, and status. |
|---|---|
| Charging Document | The complaint or information stating the prosecutor's formal charges. |
| Parties & Counsel | Party names, attorneys of record, and assigned judge where public. |
| Docket Entries | The dated history of filings, minute entries, hearings, judgments, and orders. |
| Disposition & Judgment | The result for each charge, such as dismissal, acquittal, plea, or conviction. |
| Sentence & Conditions | Fine, restitution, custody, probation, and other terms the court ordered. |
Note: A dismissed Morgan County charge is not a conviction, but dismissal alone does not erase every report or booking record.
Free Morgan County Case Access
Paid remote access is not the only route. Utah Courts provides free Xchange terminals at most district courthouses, and the Utah State Law Library also offers terminal access. Court staff can answer case-information questions. These channels are useful when a Morgan County search is brief or when a reader needs help separating District Court from Justice Court.
The Utah Courts courthouse-search page explains free terminal and staff-assisted options. The source image below shows that official fallback.
A terminal can reveal the same public CORIS summary without a paid remote Xchange session, though copy charges may still apply.
Stages of a Criminal Case
A Morgan County case does not begin in Xchange when the incident occurs. First, an officer sends the report to the prosecutor. The prosecutor then files, changes, or declines charges. Court staff create the docket after a filing. Initial appearance and release questions come before arraignment, where charges are stated and a plea is entered. Disclosure and motions follow. The case then reaches a negotiated plea, a trial, or dismissal, with judgment and sentence recorded when applicable.
Case flow: Charges Filed › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing
A disposition is the result of a charge. “Pending” means it has not reached a final result. “Disposed” only means the case or charge ended, not that it ended in conviction. A plea in abeyance holds a plea while the person completes court terms. Morgan County Justice Court publishes a specific traffic path that requires the judge at arraignment or the county attorney at pretrial to grant it.
Morgan County Hearing Recordings
A hearing recording is a separate product from a transcript or Xchange docket. The Second District form asks for the case number, Morgan court location, judge or commissioner, case name, hearing date and time, party type, and requester contact information. Fees must be paid before preparation. Recordings are available for the previous nine years.
Send Morgan and Weber requests to the Second District recording form using the published district email, 2webermorgand@utcourts.gov. The regional address reflects how Morgan County shares its district administration.
The official Second District source image below shows Morgan as part of the district location list.
Use the live location page to confirm the current clerk phone and any session change before travel.
Access & Restrictions
Public access to Morgan County court records is governed by Utah court rules rather than the county's ordinary GRAMA process. Rule 4-202.02 classifies public, private, protected, sealed, and other restricted judicial records. Juvenile delinquency, child welfare, expunged cases, and private portions do not appear in public Xchange results. A blank search therefore cannot prove that no case ever existed.
For an older or non-online public file, submit the Request for Court Record to the court that holds it. Paper copies cost $0.25 per sheet. Electronic media costs $15 per unit. Email or fax costs $5 for up to ten pages and $0.50 for each added page, but courts do not email or fax a record already available through Xchange. The first 15 minutes of staff time are free, followed by posted role-based rates.
The court-request source image below shows the official copy path.
Ask the court about the record's classification if a Morgan County case does not appear online.
Reading Morgan County Dispositions
Read each filed charge, not just the top-line case status. A dismissal ends a charge without a guilty judgment. An acquittal is a not-guilty trial result. A conviction is a judgment of guilt after plea or trial. A sentence is the order that follows a conviction. Utah felony records can show an indeterminate range, which gives minimum and maximum terms rather than a fixed release date.
- Arraignment
- The hearing where charges are stated and the person enters a plea.
- Information
- The formal charging document filed by a prosecutor in many Utah cases.
- Docket
- The dated list of filings, hearings, orders, and other court events.
- Disposition
- The final result of a charge or case.
- Plea in abeyance
- A plea held while court-ordered conditions are completed.
The distinction is vital when comparing Morgan County arrest history with the later court outcome. The booking allegation may change before the prosecutor files, while the docket preserves the formal path to disposition.
